Nicknamed the “Roof of the World,” a journey to Tibet is an exciting prospect. We are filled with images of a mysterious and amazing land in the mountains, with an altitude that makes it the highest in the world. Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, is home to the magnificent Potala Palace, former home of the Dalai Lama. Also included in this 16-day journey is Chengdu, home to the Giant Panda, and famous Sichuan cuisine. Rounding out the program are visits to China’s most popular and important destinations- Beijing, Xian, Guilin, and Shanghai.

Day 1 - BEIJING.

Arrive at Beijing Capital Airport and transfer by sedan to your hotel in Beijing. China’s capital city, Beijing is a sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites. Few other Chinese cities offer such a concentrated view of ancient and modern China.

Day 2 - BEIJING.

Today we embark on a full-day tour of Beijing. Tour the incomparable Forbidden City, home to two dynasties spanning 500 years. This architecturally stunning 200-acre compound, with more than 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms, houses a vast collection of imperial treasures and cultural artifacts. Visit Tian'anmen Square, the world's largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong's Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People. Rounding out the day is a tour of the Hutongs (backstreets of Beijing), and a delicious Peking Duck dinner this evening. Meals Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 3 - BEIJING.

No visit would be complete without an excursion to see the Great Wall; truly one of the greatest feats of human engineering, stretching nearly 4,000 miles long. Begun in the 7th century B.C., final additions were completed in 16th century A.D. and originally built to keep out invaders of the north. Back in the city this afternoon we visit the Summer Palace, home to China’s largest imperial garden. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 4 - XI’AN.

This morning tour the Temple of Heaven, a masterpiece of Ming architecture built for imperial sacrifices conducted on the summer and winter solstices, and one of Beijing's grandest attractions. In the afternoon fly to Xi'an, an ancient capital of China for eleven dynasties and the starting point of the famed Silk Road. Meals Breakfast - Lunch

Day 5 - XI’AN.

Today embark on a full-day tour of the Provincial Museum displaying more than 2,000 ancient artifacts reflecting the evolution of Chinese civilization. Visit the amazing underground tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang; guarded by more than 7,000 life-size Terra Cotta warriors and horses, the tomb is one of the world's greatest archaeological treasures. Later in the evening, enjoy a memorable Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show. Meals Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner

Day 6 - LHASA.

Fly to Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Situated at an altitude of 11,450 feet, it is one of the world's highest cities. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The balance of today is free at leisure to adjust to the high altitude. Meals Breakfast - Lunch

Day 7 - LHASA.

Visit one of Tibet's most famous and iconic sights today, the Potala Palace. Constructed in 1645, it was the chief residence of the Dalai Lama until 1959, and is Tibet's greatest monumental structure. Also visit Norbulingka, the Summer Palace situated in the western suburb of the city. Meals Breakfast - Lunch

Day 8 - LHASA.

Set out on a full-day tour today. Visit Jokhang, one of Tibet's most famous and sacred temples; and Barkhor Street, an ancient round street and pilgrim route with shops selling uniquely Tibetan items. Also visit Drepung Monastery, one of the "great three" monasteries of Tibet. Meals Breakfast - Lunch

Day 9 - CHENGDU.

In the morning tour Sera Monastery, situated on 28 acres, it is dedicated to the Gelugpa branch of Tibetan Buddhism. Later fly to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province. Meals Breakfast - Lunch

Day 10 - GUILIN.

Tour the Panda Breeding and Research base, dedicated to caring for the Giant Panda and providing the finest natural habitat; and Sanxingdui, recognized as one of the world's most important ancient remains sites. Later fly to Guilin, known for it's lovely scenery that has inspired poets and painters throughout the years. Meals Breakfast – Lunch


Take a cruise on the Li River today. Wind your way through an amazing landscape of karst topography, where beautiful limestone peaks rise from the green plain at odd angles, and daily life happens along the riverbanks. We also visit a local market in Yangshuo; a picturesque town of wonderful shops and restaurants, surrounded by karst mountains and bordering the Li River. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 12 - SHANGHAI.

This morning tour Reed Flute Cave, where amazing stone formations of stalactites and stalagmites take on familiar shapes of people, nature, food, and other familiar objects. Later transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 13 - SHANGHAI.

A full-day tour of Shanghai takes us to see the famous waterfront “Bund” area, lined with many stately buildings of European architecture from pre-1949. Visits today also include Yu Garden, with its many halls and pavilions, Shanghai Museum, Jade Buddha Temple, and the Xintiandi area. This evening enjoy an acrobatic show after dinner. Meals Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner


Embark on a full-day excursion to neighboring Suzhou, nicknamed "Venice of the East." Visit the Master of the Nets Garden, Humble Administrator's Garden, and take a canal cruise with lunch. Afterwards return to Shanghai and your hotel. Meals Breakfast – Lunch
