This 16-day journey is highlighted by China’s lovely southern Yunnan province. Yunnan, known for its mild climate and pleasant temperatures year-round, stretches from the Tibetan plateau in the north down to the borders of Vietnam, Laos, and Burma in the south. With the Mekong River flowing through the province, Yunnan is incredibly rich in biodiversity and home to the greatest number of ethnic minorities in all of China. Kunming, the capital, dates back to 279 BC, and is gateway to the nearby Stone Forest. See the beautifully preserved old town of Lijiang, and ascend to mountainous Zhongdian, officially renamed “Shangri-La,” on the Tibetan plateau. Rounding out the program are visits to China’s most popular and important destinations, Beijing, Xi’an, Guilin, and Shanghai.

Arrive in Shanghai, China’s famous port city and financial hub. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred by sedan to your hotel.


A full-day tour of Shanghai takes us to see the famous waterfront “Bund” area, lined with many stately buildings of European architecture from pre-1949. Visits today also include Yu Garden, with its many halls and pavilions, Shanghai Museum, Jade Buddha Temple, and the Xintiandi area. This evening enjoy an acrobatic show after dinner. Day 3 - KUNMING.

Fly to Kunming, capital of Yunnan province in southwest China, it is known as the "city of eternal spring" for it's mild and delightful weather year-round. In the afternoon, tour Western Hills and the Golden Palace. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 4 - KUNMING.

A full-day excursion today takes us to the magnificent Stone Forest. Located approximately 75 miles outside Kunming, the landscape of rock formations jutting into the sky like trees are a sight to behold and a true masterpiece of nature. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 5 - LIJIANG.

Fly to Lijiang, whose delightful Old Town is perhaps the best-preserved ancient town in all of China. Upon arrival, enjoy a tour of picturesque Black Dragon Pool and Dongba Cultural Museum before heading into the city. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 6 - LIJIANG.

Embark on a full-day tour including visits to Yak Meadow, where you can ascend by cable car to the top of Jade Dragon Show Mountain. See Yuhu Village, belonging to the Naxi minority people, it is where the famous botanist Dr. Joseph Rock choose as his home and place of research. Later explore the ancient Dayan town – or old town of Lijiang. Meals Breakfast – Lunch


Depart Lijiang by road for a scenic drive to Zhongdian, located on the Tibetan plateau. En route visit beautiful Tiger Leaping Gorge; believed to be one of the world's deepest gorges, it is a place of scenic beauty. Time permitting; see the first bend of the Yangtze River. Meals Breakfast - Lunch


A full-day tour is highlighted by a visit to the Songzanlin Monastery; nicknamed “Little Potala Palace” because of it’s traditional style. It is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan, and filled with treasures. Rounding out the day are visits to Napa Prairie, and a Tibetan town to visit a local family. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 9 - GUILIN.

Fly to Kunming and continue by air to Guilin. Known for it's lovely scenery, Guilin has inspired poets and painters throughout the years. Upon arrival we are met and transferred to our hotel. Meals Breakfast – Lunch


Take a cruise on the Li River today. Wind your way through an amazing landscape of karst topography, where beautiful limestone peaks rise from the green plain at odd angles, and daily life happens along the riverbanks. We also visit a local market in Yangshuo; a picturesque town of wonderful shops and restaurants, surrounded by karst mountains and bordering the Li River. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 11 - XI’AN.

This morning tour Reed Flute Cave, where amazing stone formations of stalactites and stalagmites take on familiar shapes of people, nature, food, and other familiar objects. Later fly to Xi'an, an ancient capital of China for eleven dynasties and the starting point of the famed Silk Road. Meals Breakfast - Lunch

Day 12 - XI’AN.

Today embark on a full-day tour of the Provincial Museum displaying more than 2,000 ancient artifacts reflecting the evolution of Chinese civilization. Visit the amazing underground tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang; guarded by more than 7,000 life-size Terra Cotta warriors and horses, the tomb is one of the world's greatest archaeological treasures. Later in the evening, enjoy a memorable Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show. Meals Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner

Day 13 - BEIJING.

Depart by flight for Beijing, China’s capital city. Located in the north, Beijing is a sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites. In the afternoon tour the Summer Palace, home to China’s largest imperial garden. Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 14 - BEIJING.

Today we embark on a full-day tour of Beijing. Tour the incomparable Forbidden City, home to two dynasties spanning 500 years. This architecturally stunning 200-acre compound, with more than 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms, houses a vast collection of imperial treasures and cultural artifacts. Visit Tian'anmen Square, the world's largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong's Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People. Rounding out the day is a tour of the Hutongs (backstreets of Beijing). Meals Breakfast – Lunch

Day 15 - BEIJING.

No visit would be complete without an excursion to see the Great Wall, truly one of the greatest feats of human engineering, stretching nearly 4,000 miles long. Begun in the 7th century B.C., final additions were completed in 16th century A.D. and originally built to keep out invaders of the north. Also visit the Changling (Ming Dynasty) Tomb and "Sacred Way", a seven-kilometer road lined with statues of guardian animals and officials. Finish the day with a delightful Peking Duck dinner.
